Our Journey

Living Nightmare to Cotton Candy Skies

I bet you, Grandpa never saw it coming.
The filthy, heart-aching abuse and neglect that filled his home—the very home that was once embraced with open arms and poured out love to his grandbabies. The same home built with blood, sweat, tears, and his own callused hands. His home, now forever just a house. Never a home again.

Our souls screamed in excruciating pain, with the devil’s torturous, hot-iron hands strangling the throats of now four little girls—silent. Day in and day out, we were a laughingstock at the house and at school.

The endless years of torture scarred our minds, bodies, and hearts. Three parents, each manipulating the local police department, child protective services, and the child custody system in their own ways. We are lucky we escaped the grasp of our living hell.

It’s unbelievable what wonderful humans we molded into despite the disgusting darkness that steered our daily childhoods. Especially her. Much later, as an adult, I would find out that we were all living two hells—the one we shared as sisters and the one we buried deep inside ourselves. The one we only spoke to God about.

All the "sideliners," all the outsiders looking in who could have, should have, "would have" helped—whatever their reasoning, I will never understand. Maybe, perhaps, some people did cry for us, but their pleas fell upon deaf ears? We girls were trapped in the depths of a terrifying nightmare that nobody wanted to deal with. To the extreme few who were brave enough to shine a “flashlight” in to check on us here and there—my sincere thank you's. Thank you for giving us temporary life jackets, glimmers of hope that, against all odds, we just might make it out after all.

I want to—and I am going to—be the sanctuary my sisters and I (as well as close friends) so desperately needed and yearned for when we were younger. A lifeline. Oxygen and rejuvenation. A place where genuine human connection and love flow and flourish.

RENTEBRATE is our stepping stone to just that.
Event services that recultivate what truly matters in life—genuine human connection and love. Not just for you and your loved ones, but also for our community. Cheers to us all!

With love,
Laura
